VOXY

Voxy is a San Diego vocal group, created to deliver a fun a cappella vibe to the SoCal region. We like to perform funky fresh jams - songs to entertain for a good time and get you singing and dancing along with us.
Each woman brings her own vibrant personality and musical background, helping form this motley crew of vocals, united by our love of harmonies and 90's jams.  As a group, Voxy strives to break the mold of contemporary female a cappella by doing our own fun thang and letting nothing hold us back.

Jessie
Jessie is a true San Diegan, born and raised. She was a natural singer at a young age but developed her musical talents by playing the saxophone and flute. She has a B.A. in Music from Oberlin College and also B.S. in Engineering from Olin College. Funny enough, it wasn't until engineering school that she discovered a cappella, and has since been the director of several a cappella groups including the PowerChords (Olin College) and Premiere A Cappella (CAL Los Angeles). Jessie is also now the Executive Producer of the annual Los Angeles A Cappella Festival (LAAF).

Jessie works as an Aerospace program manager but because of her multi-fasceted interests, she pursues additional after-work endeavors including engineering and project management at a nonprofit environmental startup, private advanced math and science tutoring, and volunteer solar panel installation with GRID Alternatives. In her spare time she loves going to the beach with her husband and dog, playing pub trivia and board games with friends, and collaborating on various musical pursuits!

Jenna
Jenna is an original California girl hailing from the Bay Area (and finally back on the West Coast after living in New York and Texas for a few years) and has been singing for as long as she can remember. In high school she sang in her first a cappella group as well as every choir she could fit into her schedule. Jenna headed to college on a vocal scholarship to Chapman University's Conservatory of Music although switched to Sociology/Social Work halfway through college. Music and singing, however, stayed a large part of her college experience singing in both competitive choirs at Chapman and a co-ed a cappella group called SoundCheck. Her love for nerdy people making syncopated music with their mouths was solidified.

After moving to Austin, Jenna decided to look for a musical outlet again and took the ever so sketchy route of joining a forming an a cappella group on Craigslist of all places. Jenna sang with the Austonettes until moving to sunny San Diego. Jenna is a Director at a non-profit that serves survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Needless to say Jenna was excited to have Voxy come along as a bit of self-care in the off hours from the day job. When Jenna isn't singing sweet sweet harmonies with the Voxy ladies she can be found doing CrossFit or hanging out with her quirky dog "Goose".

Emily
Emily grew up in the Pacific Northwest and was trained in classical piano from the age of 4. Over the years, she's dabbled in jazz, hung out in the woodwinds section and various choirs, and occasionally pretends to be a one-woman band. Her first adventure in a cappella was in college with the Dartmouth Rockapellas, where she also picked up beatboxing. A double major in Environmental Studies and Native American Studies, she capped off her college career with a 2nd place finish in Dartmouth Idol.

Following college, Emily moved to Los Angeles to teach 8th grade science with Teach For America, and wound up jamming with the jazz a cappella group Red Harmony for a few years. Sick of using mop buckets as lab sinks, Emily founded a charter school fundraising venture that harnessed arts education as a means to connect schools with their communities. Wanting to learn to do that better, she took the venture to Virginia where she got her MBA in entrepreneurship and corporate innovation. Emily is now a management consultant in San Diego and is thrilled to be a part of Voxy!

Karen
Karen was born in the Philippines, grew up in the Bay Area, and moved to San Diego in 2013 to recharge her the sunshine batteries after 13 years of living in the Pacific Northwest. She's been singing and making music since childhood, but she first discovered her aca-nerdness in college, where she spent most of her free time singing with the all-female group, the Princeton Wildcats. A long story of short career stints later, she found herself in Seattle, where she continued her music-making by forming a now-defunct cappella group named Ethel Unknown, and a "newgrass" band called Skitterpup.

Karen works as a data analyst for a software corporation, but also has been a certified yoga teacher for over a decade and still teaches at gyms and studios around town, and occasionally leads retreats to cool places. She likes to think that one career enables the other! She and her wife are moms to two terrier mixes and one human toddler, which means she doesn't have a whole lot of free time, but she is super excited to fill what little time she does have singing with Voxy!

Kris
Kris was born and raised in the Bay Area and has been a performer since childhood - she’s played clarinet in concert bands, sung in choirs, and acted in plays and musicals. But then, during her first year at UCSD, she helped found all-female-identifying a cappella group Daughters of Triton, and during her four years of singing random background syllables and making drum-like mouth noises with them, she realized that a cappella is really where her musical heart is. After a long hiatus from performing, she found her way back to a cappella when she joined local mixed-gender group Bent Pitch. Eventually she decided to branch out a bit and started singing with Voxy as a sub, and had such a great time that she officially joined the group once her schedule finally permitted it!

When she isn't singing or working at her day job, Kris can usually be found knitting, reading, playing board and card games, or camping.

Saiba
Saiba is originally from the Bay Area and moved to San Diego in 2021. Music has always been an important hobby in her life, from vocal and piano lessons in childhood to choirs throughout high school. In her second year at University of California, Santa Barbara, she joined the all-female a cappella group, VocalMotion (VoMo for short). She graduated as a double major in Sociology and Global Studies before pursuing her MBA at University of California, Davis.

She is currently working in Product Marketing for a social impact company empowering nonprofits with digital fundraising technology. After getting her footing in the right career path, she craved to join a singing group again -- looking for camaraderie, friendship, and an avenue for musical growth, bringing her to Voxy. When she isn't singing, you can find her taking walks, hiking, playing video games, or hanging out with her 2 cats,
